Three Counties Archers |
|
Club background: Pat McNamara and Majella Sheedy, having both shot target archery abroad and having been introduced to field archery in Ireland, set up the club with its inaugural shoot on Sunday, 11th September 2005. In the words of Don Priestley (IFAF Secretary), the club set a precedent in being the first in the country to open with a continuous 28-target course. Many weeks of hard work by Pat and Majella were involved in sourcing materials, making targets and placing and setting out a course that is both challenging and visually gratifying. The course is located on the Shanbally Estate, close to the Glengarra Wood, which in turn is situated on the southern foothills of the Galtee Mountains. A beautiful view, no matter what the weather, can be enjoyed on entering and exiting this course with its mix of deciduous and coniferous trees, through an original wooden gate of the estate that has a sense of a ‘secret garden’ entrance to it. Training takes place on Saturday and Sundays, depending on the national shoot calendar. During the summer months, there is evening training Monday-Friday. To contact the club, ring Pat or Majella on 087 052 2804. |
